Magazine Featured Wedding - Rachel and Adam

We are very excited at the studio about one of our favorite weddings from last year being featured in a four page spread in the latest issue of San Diego Style Weddings. We really enjoyed working with Rachel and Adam on their wedding photography at the Coronado Marriott last August. In this great article Rachel Welland of Bliss Events shares her experience getting ready for her wedding day and letting go of the wedding planner state of mind so she can enjoy her own wedding. She also shared her "Do's and Don'ts for a Fabulous Wedding Day".

Make sure to check out the article. It's on newsstands now!

AnneMarie and Adam - October 3, 2009

October is pretty much my favorite month in San Diego...It's still light later into the day, the weather is perfect, the skies are usually clear, and it is nice and busy!!!
AnneMarie and Adam probably knew these things when they planned their wedding for October 3 and it proved to be a perfect plan! We started the day at the Grande Colonial Hotel for the preparation which was great because the colors in the room were so complimentary and cool. It's also a great place to do portraits...obviously!

They decided to see each other prior to the ceremony so we could maximize our time with them and it was a fun the way they got to see each other for the first time with the vintage car they had rented for the day! After a few portraits with them and the wedding party, and family photos, the ceremony started at the Museum of Contemporary Art - Such a fun place for ceremony and/or reception.

With Events By Design at the helm designing and coordinating the evening and Willem-Aidan florals, the wedding reception was hit and everyone got out on the dance floor right away!

Destination Engagement Session - Angelica and Steve

I had such a fun time with Angelica and Steve for their engagement session. Right now they both live in Arizona but are planning a destination wedding in San Diego. Steve proposed to Angelica earlier this year on the beach in front of The Hotel Del and so we decided to go back there for their engagement session. We were blessed that evening with an AMAZING sunset! I love being a wedding photographer in San Diego!

Toasted Rolls of Goodness

What's more ordinary than a sandwich for lunch? In the U.S. maybe not much. This week we visited The Sandwich Emporium on Clairemont Drive and their specialty sandwiches put a delightful twist to the lunch tradition of putting stuff in bread.

This weeks special guest was DotMan from ShootDotEdit.

The popular choice was the Spicy Julio which included roast beef, pepperjack, avocado, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, mayo, dijon mustard on a toasted roll. Three out of six of us ordered it and were very happy with it. It was also a very good deal for only $6.49 and for $2 extra you could double the meat for double the happiness.

If you are in the Clairemont area and in need of a delicious sandwich I totally recommend this place.

Steph and Jon - October 3, 2009

The wedding of Stephanie and Jonathan! For me, this was an unexpected treat. Steph and Jon had other arrangements for a photographer that, at the last minute, fell through. Steph called me while I was in Monterey for a different wedding, and I'm so glad that I was available for to do their wedding photography.
From the beginning, you could tell that this couple cared about enjoying the wedding day. They built the entire day around ensuring their family and friends would thoroughly enjoy themselves. This permeated through down to how they acted throughout their wedding day. Steph and Jon seemed to be in their own little world, and it was so much fun for me to sit back and document it. Jon is a comedy writer for some pretty major shows on TV, and Steph is an actress in the L.A. area. It wasn't hard for me to sit back and watch them entertain each other :)
My favorite part of the day was the time alone we had with the two of them. The lighting and location really complimented their unique attire. Their reception was flat out hysterical . . . most to all of the groomsmen are professional comedians, many with Emmy's for the comedy. You can imagine what the toasts were like . . .

Amy and Michael - October 3, 2009

I love love love shooting at the RB Courtyard! For starters, there are so many great colors, and there is awesome architecture. Amy and Michael got married early this month and it was an awesome wedding to photograph. Their ceremony was in St. Michaels Church which had some of the most amazing natural light that I have ever seen indoors. After the ceremony we headed over to the RB Courtyard to have some fun with the wedding party and the couple alone. The colors from this wedding really put me in the mood for Fall. With pumpkin centerpieces that were made at the rehearsal dinner and maple leaves on the table it was unmistakeably an October wedding. Thank you Amy and Michael for letting me be a part of your big day!

Jessica and Michael - September 11, 2009

It was a beautiful afternoon for a wedding in San Diego. The skies were a rich blue with patches of accent clouds and there was a warm breeze. I was excited to finally get to meet Jessica and Michael, a great couple who flew across the country to exchange their vows and become one on the Hornblower Emerald in the San Diego Bay.

The Emerald left the dock and their ceremony began shortly. The boat cruised through the bay and the sun began to set behind the hilly Point Loma peninsula. Jessica and Michael exchanged vows and rings, then kissed for the first time as husband and wife. It was a magical moment.

Mother nature took out it's finest paint brushes that afternoon and painted the skies in bright blue, orange and purple. Our captain pointed the boat in the right direction and we were able to capture some awesome sunset portraits.

The celebration continued in to the night as we cruised back and forth throughout the San Diego Bay from Point Loma to Coronado.

Congratulations to Jessica and Michael!

Flowers and Burritos?

Our Bauman Lunch Day started off very colorful thanks to our friends at Wholesale Flowers. They sent us a beautiful flower arrangement as a thank you gift for the photos that we provided for their website.

After smelling the flowers, we were off to lunch. This week we had a craving for some taco shop food. It was perfect timing that Santanas opened a new location a block away from our studio. Their new location is in Little Italy on Kettner Blvd bettween Hawthorne and Grape and for those of you who are night owls, they are open 24/7.

They have the standard taco shop menu but offeres options like whole wheat tortillas to make your meal more nutritious. Santanas has a reputation for great food it's even been listed on the SignonSanDiego.com list for best taco shop. And if you are a San Diego native you know that the best taco shops are in San Diego so being ranked here in this city means a lot.

This week I went with the grilled chicken plate which included rice, beans, fresh salsa, corn chips, and a whole wheat tortilla. Jacob went for the carne asada burrito and Bronson went for the California burrito, which is essentially a carne asada burrito packed with fresh fries. The burrito weighs a pound!

These past couple of months Bronson has had baby on the brain. So when he saw an opportunity to practice his diaper changing skills on his burrito he went right to practicing.

I think overall we were very satisfied. The guys thought that the carne asada was not seasoned as well as Taco Fiesta's carne asada (which is also within walking distance). However we left there feeling full and satisfied and Jacob and I returned the next day for a second round.

Patricia and Kevin - September 26, 2009 - New Orleans

NOLA BABY!!!! Chalk up another great New Orleans wedding for the Bauman Photographers team. You probably will not recognize Patricia, but she is actually on our website - she's one of the many Vera Wang covered bridesmaids in the wedding I shot in the Dominican Republic -

This time around, the wedding festivities were all held in or around the French Quarter which is the quintessential New Orleans experience. Melissa Mullen, a friend and fellow wedding photographer from Maine joined me for the experience and we were able to spend lots of quality time around the city.
The whole event began at Broussards where they had a cocktails and dinner - The next night was another awesome cocktail party complete with live music, dancing, and the upstairs of Arnaud's all to ourselves. Everyone loved hanging out on the balcony above Bourbon St.

Tricia and Kevin made it so easy on us - they are such a fun couple and have such a quiet yet intense respect and patience for each other and those around them. The wedding prep kicked the day off at Waldorf Astoria's Roosevelt hotel where the flower girls were having tons of fun getting dolled up and taking advantage of the props that would later make their way out to the dance floor that evening.

After that, Tricia and Kevin had their first sight right in front of the church where they had their ceremony - The Immaculate Conception Jesuit Parish basically it was a breathtaking cathedral the likes of which I've never seen in Southern California. That is the great thing about New Orleans...the history.
We made our way through a nearby hotel and then to the French Quarter for portraits where so much inspiration took place - and as Patricia put it, "it was worth the sweat" 90% humidity will do that...At one point, a few kids ran through the shot which was the best thing that could have happened! Couldn't have been planned better...

After a beautiful ceremony, we headed to the Roosevelt for the reception. Heading to the reception is half the fun of the wedding - They call it a Second Line and it involves a Police escort, a marching street band, and dancing through the crowded streets. It. is. Awesome. I've found it to be typical with the New Orleans weddings and any wedding where there are Cubans, that the dancing is OFF THE HOOK! they have so much fun and really get into it. What a blast.
This is true on the dance floor at the reception too!
